The New Mexico VA Health Care System and the University of New Mexico (UNM) Cancer Center are seeking applications for the position of Chief and 3 staff physicians, Section of Hematology/Oncology at the NMVAHCS The NMVAHCS Hematology/Oncology program is the major academic affiliate of the UNM Division of Hematology/Oncology and the UNM Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The VA Section Chief has a major leadership role within the division including its fellowship program. Support for the VA Hematology/Oncology Section Chief position will include support for the recruitment of up to 3 additional faculty members. This individual will be appointed in the Tenured or Clinician-Educator Track in the Professorial series at UNM and report directly to the Chief of Medicine at the NMVAHCS. This individual will also collaborate closely with the Divisional and Cancer Center Leadership at UNM with responsibility for coordinating the scientific, clinical and educational oncology programs at NMVAHCS with programmatic initiatives at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Staff Physicians have a major teaching role within the division including its fellowship program. Qualified applicants will have an MD, current medical license and be board-certified or eligible in Hematology and/or Oncology. The ideal Chief candidate will be suitable for academic appointment at UNM at the level of associate or full professor, as evidenced by a strong track record of academic and clinical excellence. Ideal candidates will also have demonstrated leadership skills and success in mentorship. The ideal candidate for the staff physician positions will be suitable for academic appointment at UNM at the level of assistant, associate or full professor, as evidenced by a strong track record of academic and/or clinical excellence. The clinical activities of the Section of Hematology/Oncology span the breath of the subspecialty and are strongly supported by surgery, pathology, radiology and the other Faculty members of Medicine Service.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).
Must be U.S. Citizen – Non-US Citizens may be considered
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
Board Certification in Hematology & Oncology is preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered. Additional board certification in Internal Medicine is preferred.
