JOB SUMMARY: Provides leadership and direct supervision to the purchasing staff that are responsible for clinical or non-clinical buying activity. Ensures that products and services required by Geisinger Health System are procured in an efficient, timely and cost effective manner.
Assures compliance with both system and department policies and procedures.
Performs duties in a manner that supports the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality, cost-effective patient care and patient satisfaction.
Reports directly to the Director, Procurement.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of advanced purchasing and procurement techniques including electronic ordering and multi-facility product purchasing.
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrates good communication and presentation skills. Must be able to facilitate multi-disciplinary groups.
Demonstrates familiarity with spreadsheets, databases and materials management computer applications.
Demonstrates excellent team building, problem identification, analysis and resolution skills.
Demonstrates self-motivation and time management skills. Must be goal oriented and flexible.
Demonstrates excellent supervisory skills with a solid understanding of staff empowerment, motivation and development.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in business administration, health services or related field required.
Minimum three years of purchasing experience required.
OR
Associate’s degree with a minimum of five years purchasing experience required.
OR
Minimum of 9 years purchasing experience.
Project Management experience preferred.
Strong supervisory experience preferred. Accounting, audit and clinical setting experience also preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in an office environment. Position qualifies as Work From Home (WFH) eligible, according to Supply Chain Services WFH policy #12.07 on file.

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
