JOB SUMMARY: Provides leadership in developing, analyzing, and conducting complex financial analyses to assess the viability of strategic and financial plans or support the institution's opinion on compliance matters. Maintains the established goals of the organization with an emphasis on the independent analysis and reporting of financial information. Mentors and coaches staff.
Department/Unit Summary:
Vanderbilt's Section of Surgical Sciences combines many of our surgical departments at Vanderbilt into one framework with the commitment to providing the best in patient care. Our specialty teams of surgeons and researchers work closely with one another to discover and reveal the latest medical and surgical innovations, while teaching our residents the many facets of surgery. This collaboration of disciplines allows us to provide an array of conventional and unique surgical services to the entire mid-south region resulting in outstanding patient outcomes.

Additional Key Elements/ Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently monitors performance of operations and financial reporting. Evaluates programs or reimbursement through the use, development, and modification of financial reports and/or models. Designs and implements strategies to generate compliant and accurate payment.
- Leads operating and capital budget development efforts. Manages the annual operating and capital budget processes.
- Provides advice and direction in the development of business plans, regulatory changes, and compliance matters.
- Provides leadership in developing processes for enhancing quality, reimbursement, customer satisfaction, and financial performance goals.
- Participates in process improvement reviews of a variety of financial systems.
- Analyzes and reports on the effects of proposed federal and state statutes and regulatory actions which may impact financial planning.
- Analyzes future trends and indicators in related areas of interest. Reviews data to analyze trends affecting budget needs or compliance risks.

- Collaborates with Section leadership to support the management of budgets, resource allocation, and financial plans, for the Section of Surgical Sciences
- Assist in developing business plans and scenario modeling to understand the financial impact of decisions and various strategies.
- Develop proformas with Section leadership to evaluate new programs or other strategic investments for (e.g. expansion analysis, new clinic programs, ancillary service offerings) in an efficient manner.
- Oversee the preparation of the annual operating budget for Section. Requires evaluation of budget to ensure related volume data is consistent across business unit. Coordinate budget presentations by leadership, maintaining documentation for decisions and performing necessary follow-up.
- Facilitate reconciliation of actual performance to budget expectations and reporting significant variances from budget. Work with Section and Finance leaders to analyze performance to budget and make recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Prepare and deliver financial reports to executive management regarding Section operations, budgets and strategic planning efforts.
- Position requires analyzing unit operations to determine quality and value added opportunities (review of revenue cycle, cost accounting information, training, monthly slides, margin analysis) along with review of the programs/service lines in terms of efficiency or productivity.
- Oversee capital submissions, tracking and reporting process for the Section and related areas.

Position Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree (or equivalent experience) and 5 years experience required.
**( MBA preferred,CPA preferred,7-10 years of experience strongly preferred, Medical group practice experience preferred, Prior Healthcare experience preferred)**
