JOB SUMMARY: Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has been chosen by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to be the Data and Research Center for the Precision Medicine Initiative "All of Us" Research Program, a landmark study of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors affecting the health of a million or more people. This initiative requires the development and integration of applications and data sources to support participants, health provider staff, and researchers.
We are looking for a Manager on our Curated Data Repository (CDR) team running in Google Cloud Platform. The CDR processes raw health-related data from sources nationwide across the All of Us program, including from EHR systems, labs and pharmacies, clinical research systems, program surveys, and wearable devices. The CDR team is responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines that transform this raw data into formats and models that are consumed by downstream systems and clinical researchers. You are expected to have a technical background that will enable you to advise on data and cloud architecture, as well as represent your developers in meetings with stakeholders and product owners. Your developers are smart, capable, and committed to the mission of improving human health by building data repositories that enable researchers to make new discoveries. Your goal is to position the CDR team for success by clearing blockers, planning for future program initiatives, and refining project needs into well-defined components for implementation.
Communicates with stakeholders, product owners, and project managers to distill clear implementation requirements.
Manages, mentors, and grows development staff.
Works closely with technical leads on development planning and innovation.
Positions team to address framework/system upgrades while still meeting project goals.
Works with peer managers to disseminate best practices and foster professional development across teams.
Collaborates to operationalize the mission, strategic plan, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policies.
Strong knowledge of ETL pipelines.
General knowledge of cloud architecture and deployments.
Experience with "big data" concepts like data warehouses and/or lakes.
Experience with Agile development methodologies.
Strong understanding of contemporary software engineering best practices.
