Leads the operational functions regarding day-to-day Radiology PACS image management and support under the general direction of the Department of Radiology. Responsible for the technical implementation, operation, ongoing maintenance and evaluation of the Radiology PACS (IBM Merge PACS) and PACS diagnostic workstations, as well as other Radiology information systems such as the Radiology Voice Dictation system (Nuance PowerScribe 360) and the Enterprise Image Archive (IBM iConnect). Analyzes, implements and maintains medical imaging, computer-based systems for the department/division and supporting organization-wide medical imaging systems. Utilizes technical knowledge to provide on-going support. Must have a technical mind, attention to detail, ability to describe technical information in easy-to-understand terms.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Customer/Vendor Relationships Develop collaborative professional relationships with team members, department/division, vendors and key stakeholders. Facilitate a productive working relationship between the department/division, other departments, and Information Services.
Analysis Work to ensure the imaging systems meet the department and institution clinical and research requirements. Understand the choices involved in imaging application specifications. Prioritize and implement requested changes to systems. Analyze new functionality in releases to determine how it should be used. Collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs. Respond to, troubleshoot, and resolve imaging systems related issue requests from the department and institution. Document issue resolution and provide feedback to users on how to avoid consistent errors. Escalate issues to management with potential solutions. Perform in-depth analysis of imaging workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues. Find innovative ways to improve efficiency of processes, workflows, and software. Work with department and organization leadership to develop and roll out imaging-related solutions for long-term resolution of complex issues. Work with department to understand reporting needs. Create and prepare statistical summaries and reports using available methods.
Technical Support
Monitor PACS related activities and resources, diagnose system hardware and software problems, and resolve problems in a coordinated and timely manner. Ensure proper operations of DICOM image data transfers into the PACS, HL7 order workflows and interfaces with the hospital EMR as well as network transmission, image archiving, and exceptions handling. Participate in the installation, configuration, updating, testing, and validation and ongoing support of complex imaging related systems. Lead and manage software updates and changes. Create and prepare basic scripts to aid in support and maintenance of systems. Serve as liaison between the department, other departments, Information Services, and vendors.
Design and Development Consult with department and other departments to determine system requirements. Design, develop, implement and support technical solutions that will increase the efficiency of the department/division. Assess, understand and communicate the impact of changes in workflow, systems and technology to the department and institution. Evaluate current systems for quality/utilization. Document business processes, technical requirements, imaging and data workflows. Create or assist in creating capital and operating budgets. Evaluate department/division training needs and develop training strategies, standards and objectives. Design, write and prepare complete user documentation for department/division systems, including system training manuals. Prepare oral, written presentations and videos for training purposes and conduct training as needed.
Project Management Manage large and/or complex medical imaging projects. Create and maintain project plans to ensure timely completion of projects. Develop and oversee project management standards and activities team. Work with leadership to assist team in setting project task goals, milestones and priorities. Develop presentations and communicate project status to key stakeholders. Participate in and contribute to national medical imaging organizations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
Preferred: DICOM, HL7 experience CIIP, CRES, or PACS Administrator Certification
