The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is a Level I tertiary multi campus teaching facility affiliated with the University of Maryland - School of Medicine and over 100 educational institutions. Located next to the University of Maryland Medical Center with a walkway connecting the two facilities, the medical center maintains an active affiliation with the University in the sharing of staff, resources, and technology. Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center is the acute medical and surgical care facility for the VA Maryland Health Care System and offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and primary care services. As one of the most modern health care facilities in the country, the medical center offers veterans state-of-the-art medical technology, clinical services, and research programs. It is home to the world’s first filmless radiology department, which allows health care providers to have nearly instant access to patient radiology images from anywhere in the facility and throughout the health care system.
The Medical Care Clinical Center within the VA Maryland Health Care System is currently seeking a Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care. The Pulmonary section provides outpatient care for patients with a wide variety of pulmonary conditions at the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers and inpatient care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. There is an active Lung Mass program including lung cancer screening and the lung cancer precision oncology program, interventional pulmonology, pulmonary hypertension clinic and the center for the post-deployment cardiopulmonary exercise network. In addition, there is a large respiratory therapy program that covers inpatients at the Baltimore, Loch Raven, and Perry Point VAMCs as well as outpatient CPAP and Home oxygen program.
Qualifications:
The candidate must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care, having completed fellowship training in an ACGME accredited program. Candidates with an active extramurally funded research program are preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the administrative team responsible for clinical operations of the pulmonary section, respiratory therapy, PFT laboratory, and home oxygen and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.
- Oversee the educational and training activities of the Pulmonary Section at the Baltimore VAMC.
- Report to the Chief of the Baltimore VAMC Medical Service (Dr. Hochberg) and the UMB Pulmonary and Critical Care Division (Dr. Hasday) about Section activities, ongoing and new programs, and equipment and personnel requirements.
- Perform high impact, extramurally funded biomedical research.
- Support the professional development of junior faculty in the Pulmonary Section.

Perry Point VAMC
Perry Point VA Medical Center offers a full range of inpatient medical, intermediate, and long-term care programs, including nursing home care, low-level rehabilitation, geriatric evaluation and management, respite care, chronic ventilator care and hospice care. There is ample, free parking on the grounds of the medical center, which is conveniently located just off of I-95 and U.S. Route 40. This medical center is located on a beautiful campus of approximately 400 acres on the banks of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay where you can enjoy a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, swimming, bicycling, and jogging.
